Review your AI Agent’s instructions to identify configuration issues before publishing or updating the Agent.

The review checks your Instructions and enabled AI Agentaction instructions against your Workspace setup. It can identify invalid references, incorrectly configured actions, unsupported instructions, conflicting instructions and other issues that may affect how your AI Agent works.

How to Review Your AI Agent

  1. Go to AI Agents.

  2. Create a new AI Agent or select an existing one to edit.

  3. Click Review.

  4. Wait for the review to complete.

  5. If issues are found, select Review issues to view them.

You can review the issues and suggested fixes before making changes to your AI Agent.

What the Review Checks

The review checks several parts of your AI Agent configuration.

References and Tokens

The review checks that the Workspace items referenced in your instructions exist and are used correctly.

This includes:

  • Contact Fields:$FieldName

  • Workflows: !WorkflowName

  • Users and Teams: @UserName and @TeamName

  • Tags: %TagName

For example, an issue may be detected if your instructions reference a Contact Field or Tag that no longer exists.

For Contact Fields, the review can also detect when a field value is used without enough context for the AI Agent to understand what the value represents.

AI Agent Actions

The review checks whether the AI Agent actions described in your instructions match the actions configured for the AI Agent.

Issues may be detected when:

  • Your instructions reference an action that isn’t enabled.

  • An enabled action referenced by your instructions has no Action instructions.

  • Your instructions reference an action that isn’t available.

  • An Action uses an invalid destination, such as an

Assign to agent or team action with no destination or an Add comment action that mentions a Team or AI Agent instead of a User.

  • Your instructions contradict each other about when or how an action should be used.

Learn more about configuring and using AI Agent actions. The existing actions guide already explains action behavior such as actions running before replies and the need to use exact Workspace item names.

Unsupported Instructions

The review can detect instructions that ask the AI Agent to perform unsupported tasks.

For example:

  • Reading a Contact’s existing Tags.

  • Reading internal Comments.

  • Finding information in a Knowledge Source based on its document title instead of its content.

  • Sending unsupported attachment types such as videos, voice notes or stickers.

For more information about what AI Agents can and can’t access, see AI Agents: Known Limitations and Workarounds.

Follow-up Instructions and Limits

The review checks whether your instructions stay within supported AI Agent limits.

Issues may be detected for:

  • More than 5 follow-up steps.

  • A follow-up scheduled more than 24 hours after the previous message.

  • Branching or multiple parallel follow-up sequences.

  • Instructions that ask the AI Agent to refer to more than the last 20 messages in a conversation.

Instruction Clarity and Consistency

The review also checks whether your instructions provide a clear and consistent flow for the AI Agent to follow.

It may identify:

  • Conflicting instructions for the same situation.

  • A missing or unclear goal.

  • No clear exit condition.

  • Instructions that lack enough structure for the intended flow.

Review and Fix Issues

When issues are detected, select Review to see them in more detail.

Issues are grouped according to where they appear, such as your main Instructions or an individual Action.

For issues with a suggested fix:

  1. Select the issues you want to fix.

  2. Review the suggested changes.

  3. Select Apply fixes.

  4. Check the proposed changes before confirming them.

Your instructions aren’t changed until you confirm the fixes. After fixes are applied, the instructions are reviewed again for remaining issues.

Ignore an Issue

Select Ignore if you don’t want to address an issue during the current review.

Ignoring an issue:

  • Removes it from the current list of open issues.

  • Doesn’t change your AI Agent’s instructions.

  • Doesn’t mark the issue as permanently resolved.

Ignored issues are cleared when you run a new review, so an issue may appear again if it is still detected.
