Advanced settings let you fine-tune how your AI Agent behaves in chat conversations, beyond what's set in its Instructions. The first available setting is wait time — how long your AI Agent waits before replying.
Accessing Advanced settings
Click Create AI Agent or click Edit to update an existing AI Agent.
Click the gear icon at the top right.
The Advanced settings drawer opens.
Wait time
Set how long your AI Agent waits before it starts processing a reply. Each new message from a Contact resets the timer, so it waits until they're done before responding.
The wait time is set at 1 second by default.
You can configure the following:
Range: 1 second to 300 seconds (5 minutes)
Unit: Choose second or minute from the dropdown next to the input field
Wait time only applies to Contact-initiated messages. It doesn’t affect:
AI Agent follow-up messages
AI Agent Actions
System messages
Wait time vs processing time
A Contact only receives a reply after two stages:
Your configured wait time
The AI Agent’s processing time (not configurable, typically 10–15 seconds).
The total reply time is both combined.
Processing time can take longer when the AI needs to:
Search knowledge sources for relevant information.
Process the message and generate a reply.
Wait for the AI model provider to respond during busy periods.
Handle temporary network or system delays.
Limitations
Applies to chat conversations only.
Advanced settings and Configuration page save separately — click Save in the Advanced settings drawer, then click Publish or Save on the Configuration page.

Does wait time apply to email or other conversation types?
No. Advanced settings currently apply to chat conversations only.
Are Advanced settings set per AI Agent or per Workspace?
Per AI Agent. Each AI Agent has its own Advanced settings.
